You can also delete and rename images, open them in an external editor, or mark them with Finder labels from inside the tool. It also has a list of previously used destinations, to allow you to move images as quickly as possible. It will let you quickly copy and move images to other folders. The app is useful for sorting through and arranging image files. Rotating images with gestures is also supported. You can even configure different sorting orders for horizontal and vertical swipes. You can of course scroll and resize images with touch gestures, but you can also swipe between the images in the same folder or archive. Xee has extensive support for touch controls. The program will also optionally resize its window to best fit your images on the screen. You can then quickly browse forward or backward in the folder, and the app will flip through all the images, without having to open each one yourself. When you open an image in Xee, it will also scan the same folder (and, optionally, subfolders) for further images. It is similar to macOS's Preview.app, but lets you easily browse the entire contents of folders and archives, move and copy image files quickly, and supports many more image formats. It’s a shame really that nothing on Apple comes anywhere near Windows for picture file browsing. After all, that is why people buy apps like this - to get what Windows does already out-of-the-box. Yes, it’s a little better than that, but for a paid application I would have expected the author to spend a lot more effort on the user interface and making the picture browsing a lot more like what is out of the box with Windows machines. You cannot browse through directories, select multiple directories or really do much with the interface that cannot already be done with scarcely more work than one can do with finder already. I would have expected a more intitive layout with directories on the left and picture content on the right (more like finder). It puts the icon in the dock and once you click on the icon the menu bar is parked at the top and one has to physically click on it, select file and open a file or directory. When the application starts it does not open a typical application window. With a little extra effort this application could be on the top of the heap. This application does in fact display various graphic formats however, the user interface is crude and hardly intuitive and the application itself shows its age. But for $4 it sure filled a big hole in the Mac image handling for me! I do have a few quibbles and I’ve given some feedback to MacPaw so I’m hoping we’ll continue to see improvements.

For example, I assigned the keys 1 through 5 to move the current image to one of 5 different destinations, so it is easy to zip through and sort a bunch of images into good/better/best/reject, for example, or into “bride”/“groom”/“other”, etc., with a single keystroke. So I’ve got my whole keyboard mapped out for quick scanning, zooming, sorting, and even some rudimentary editing (just rotating, flipping, and cropping). I love the fact that almost all of the many commands in the system are assignable to keyboard keys via a very easy to use Preferences->Keyboard screen. It has a pretty sophisticated copy/move system where you can dynamically specify up to 10 destination folders and then move or copy each image into one of those destinations with a keystroke. I shoot and sort a lot of images and Xee has some key features that really help me. I’ve used several other image viewing programs, both paid and unpaid, but this is my favorite. I’m using the latest version, which at the moment is 3.5.3, and many of the complaints I’ve read in these reviews apparently apply to previous versions because they don’t apply to the version I have. I rarely write reviews but I feel compelled to because I love this program and I don’t think the ratings here reflect how good it is.
